A barrel of oil, it’s not just this this particular assemblage of molecules that is transacting owners, but it’s an it’s it’s understood to be a whole another set of of a past, present and future dynamics that one has illegal liability in its relationship to that becomes part of the price.

Groos — Bratton conversation (2020 Nov 30)

This week, I came across a new way of thinking about the economy and society, which is to think of commodities as a whole, it is not only the material itself, but also the combination of social relations and a past, present and future dynamics. When people buy a commodity, they not only have the right to use it, but also bear the responsibility. For example, the pollution caused by the commodity to the environment, the impact on other people, etc. When people get rid of a commodity, they are not only renouncing property claims over it, they are also renouncing liability claims.

If we can grasp all aspects of economic ontology, it is not easy for people in society to give up their responsibilities to help society achieve transformation, which needs to form the influence from both psychological and behavioral aspects. As Groos says, large scale changes occur through the accumulation of moral behaviors. If enough people do enough moral behaviors, these moral behaviors will gather to form a large number of moral behaviors, and then there will be a transformation of infrastructure. Through this thoughtful, conscious, psychological and moral paradigm world outlook transformation, that is, through and after It is the accumulation of virtue. Besides, in other aspects, including the transformation of social system, cultural system and even political and economic system, it is often a system that occurs under the influence of technological change at the bottom.

In China, we emphasize that the economic foundation determines the superstructure. That is to say, people’s property affects people’s psychology to a certain extent. We need to find a way to to to address this social institution of property, otherwise, it is meaningless to talk about changing people’s thinking without economy.
